camphone

Okay, so I finally did it. I was out on breaking news and we didn't have time to get video back to the station (actually we had time, but the lightning was too close to our TV van). So I whipped out the camera phone and zapped a few photos of storm damage back to the station. And Erin talked over the pictures in a phone interview.

I've always thought it was cool in theory, but never thought I'd ever have to do it. My friend's an assignment editor in Ohio, and he mentioned that his station is arming their field crews with camera-enabled cell phones. It's probably happening at newsrooms everywhere - which is kinda cool.

Well today was my day, and I'm glad I had a signal (because my phone won't even work next to the station sometimes).

Speaking of camera phones, and the like...

Cory, over at Lost Remote posted some "How did they do that?" articles - based on our adventures at NAB. Worth checking out of you're into: audioblogging, vlogging, or moblogging.

Oh! And, I'm totally wearing this at NAb next year. Talk about high-tech!

And the nomination goes to...

I was happy to learn that my name is on the short-list for a NW Emmy award. I never get nominated. Ever. But, now that I'm gone...

Fingers crossed - check.
Hopes up - check.
Holding breath - for now.

Yeah, our photog staff is now fully equipped with Motorola camera phones.. But I haven't been in a time crunch to use it, versus feeding back video.. Looking forward to some of that spot news, and quick turns.. like you had today..

Congrats on the Emmy nomination.. When will NATAS announce the regional winners??

Best of luck!

I think it's in late June. Plenty of time for me to put it out of my mind.

I think I have that exact same camera phone. Is it the LG VX6100?

Hopes up - Check
Hehe, reminds me of Homer Simpson's "Well, you'd better get your hopes up!"
Totally irrelevant but humerous nonetheless.

My sister just got a sweet new Verizon phone today (VX7000 or 8000, I'm not sure). Anyway, it made me a bit jealous and now I want one. The video is pretty cool. I just have a camera phone with no flash which has limited uses.

Your vlogging with your digital camera at NAB really made me think about the uses of it. It's the future of online reporting and vlogging, virtually instantanious. Well done BAMF.

Congrats on the nomination too!

I have been using my camera phone for a couple of months now, even had a blog about it the first day I had it.

I finally got to use it for spot news 2 weeks ago at an overnight police v. citizen shooting where the citizen ended up dead.

I even blogged about the story the next day with a small mention of the camera phone use.

What I didn't say in that article is that my camera phone sucks in the dark and at a distance. I found a quick solution for that. I used the camera phone to get snapshots of the highly gained video from the LCD screen on the side of my camera.

This worked GREAT!!! I know that not everyone has an LCD screen on their camera but luckily I do now and hopefully you will soon.

BTW, the pix on my blog article are after the sun came up with my good digital camera.

LLR- Congrats on the EMMY NOM!!!!!
