in memoriam

I was at work yesterday, and received the following email/obituary from my girlfriend:

Death of a VCR
"Sharp 4 Head Hi-Fi stereo VCR died a loud and anguished death on Monday, May 30th of the year 2005. She took with her to the grave a VHS tape to keep her eternal company. Ms. Sharp 4 Head Hi-Fi leaves behind no immediate survivors. She has two twin nieces – Cyber Home Progressive Scan DVD’s and a nephew Daewoo, also of the Progessive Scan family. She will be missed and replaced immediately. Donations should be made out to Best Buy."

And, when I got home there was a makeshift memorial set up on the counter.

A few years ago this might've been a bummer, but my reaction was basically, "Ehh. Whatever. It's only a VCR."

Now if it were a Tivo....

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I recently moved my 11-year old RCA 4 Head Stereo Hi-Fi into the local hospice. It was a tough decision, but at least he'll be comfortable when the end comes....I'm sorry, I told myself I wasn't going to cry....

I have to Emerson VCRs, both of which have a severe case of Parkinsons and sometimes get the runs. And my 5 year old DVD player had a seziure about a month ago but quick bit of opitcal care seemed to cure the disease.

My Sony DVD recently was diagnosed with Alzheimers, even surgery could not cure it...so I had to send it to a better place...*sighs*...A friend tried to replace it but I just wasn't ready yet, but then I saw the new one...

Excellent. Vintage Little Lost Robot. The inclusion of a letter from Kyann was a brilliant literary deployment. This is why I take your blog with a glass of wine and a fine brie.

Submarines to you my fine fellow!

VCR? You won't find one of those in our casa. However, there is a shiny silver TIVO beneath the HDTV.. I feel ya, LLR.

BTW, I like the new design on the site.
