dayside

Today was my first day as a 'dayside' photographer. From the way that everyone's talking to me about it...becoming a dayside photographer is like opening a magical box of wishes or something.

"You're working dayside now? Nice. Welcome to dayside!"

It'll be nice to have more time to catch-up on some computery-related stuff. And I'll be able to actually watch TV shows at the time that they're actually on TV. That'll be a change.

But moving to a new, much-coveted shift means leaving behind my awesome nightside peeps. And, Team Marla & JL has come to an end. We'll have some occasional random team-ups, but she's got a new photog now - and I've been thrown into general population (I've been watching Oz) with the other guys.

To commemorate our time together, I put together a little video of our adventures over the last few months. Every night when we drive back to the station, we listen to Technotronic's Pump Up The Jam and...well...pump up the jam.

Here's the clip:

[Marla and JL present Pump Up The Jam - 2:30trt/5mb/MOV]

It might look like we're screwing around, but after I edited out all the city/county council meetings and legistlative/educational stories, it was a lot shorter and more exciting. Think of it like Peter Jackson cutting out all parts of the Lord of the Rings where the Hobbits eat, sing about eating, talk about eating, or complain about not eating - that was like 4000 pages he didn't have to put into the movie trilogy.

Kinda like that.

What was I talking about again?
Oh yeah. Dayside.
It's not bad.
Today I did a story about a guy having a heart attack.
What will tomorrow have in store? Who knows?

Things I've learnt...

1. Your digital camera is awesome and I really need to invest in one.
2. You're a really good editor! Hillarity ensues again.
3. Marla seems like such a cool girl to work with! Makes me jealous, considering some of the trolls I have to work with in the news team...

First off... nightside is the coveted shift at my station (if you can believe that). More indians + one chief + everyone working together for the good of a single newscast = it rocks.

Secondly, your video was great. Makes me wish some of the photogs I worked with had as much a sense of humor and spunk and personality. Only one of the photogs I work with lets me dance and sing in the car like that... and unfortunately, we don't have a dashboard cam. Sigh.

my official statement:
"It looks like I'm not holding the wheel, but I really am. I used the AVID and Adobe After Effects to make it look like I was being unsafe. Um..yeah...that's what I did."

Gotta love the dashboard cam.

Longtime reader, first time poster... you are hilarious and I wish I lived there to share your hilarity. Things I loved: Sonic, Schlotzky's, stealing the map for a standup... and on an unrelated post-- I can't get over the TV at the gas pump. Soon you'll be covering stories about it starting a fire. FYI-- dayside ain't all it's cracked up to be. Miss you!!

Okay, what meds or drugs do you have Marla on, cause either she's either been chemically enhanced or distances truly does make the heart grow fonder.

I just sent the link to my friends at work and noticed the title of the file is "pumpjam." I hope they don't think I sent something a little TOO exciting. But really I think I saw that stuff at a book store once. It was a 24 hour book store, but strangely it had very few books(and no Starbucks). The other customers were really nice though...
