vacation
Not that I've been posting all that frequently, but I'm going on a little vacation for a few days - so the blog may not be updated for a few days. I'm gonna go check out southern South Carolina ("The Low Country").
Today I'm in Charleston, and having a swell time. I'm staying a colonial B&B that was built in the late 1700's - and they have free wireless internet. Most impressive.
I've already bought a book of weird Southern ghost stories. And I also got some plastic Civil War soldiers. This evening they fought a major campaign in the hotel room bathroom.

We've already eaten at a bunch of restaurants - way too many for only being here since noon. Somehow we ended up at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company for dinner (wasn't my idea). Eating at Planet Hollywood is bad enough with all its lackluster 90's movie memorabilia in your face. But, a restaurant based around a movie that's like 12 years old is a bit much. Don't get me wrong: I like the Forrest Gump. But, this place felt very "warmed over" and desperately wanted to 'keep the magic alive". And none of the actors (except Robin Wright Penn) seemed to have granted the use of their likeness for marketing, so they're oddly absent from everything. Even the guy who played Bubba.
When the server came over to our table to start-up a game of "Forrest Gump Trivia", it was officially too much. Of course, I'm such a dork that later I thought about reading the sequel to Forrest Gump, so that I can go back really impress them with my...um...Gumpology.
Anyway, with all that said about the place: my dinner-with-a-stupid-name was really good.
So there.

I think Hyman's is a place you need to go. But go early if you want a table. Great food.
Bot,
Finish this cursed tour of the lesser of the Carolinas and come see us in the Piedmont. I wanna buy you a drink...
LLR, have a good time on Vaco. I'm counting the days until mine in Sept. Enjoy every minute. You earned it. Stay safe!!
When you get back we'd enjoy an entertaining post on your station's temporary set. At first I wasn't sure from the web video, but then when they went to the two shot it revealed that perhaps some sort of rennovation was underway.
I love Charleston. I hope to retire there. What am I saying? Photogs don't retire, they work at WalMart or shoot wedding videos because they couldn't pay into the 401k plan.
I agree with Slinger. Come up to the greater of the Carolinas and we will have a party.
The Colonel
Totally.
I'm thinking I'll head up that way sometime next month maybe. I'll let you guys know when.
No, don't go to Hyman's, it's a tourist trap. Try Slightly North of Broad, High Cotton, or travel an extra 20 mins. south to Edisto for the Old Post Office. There are countless better restaurants than Hyman's or Bubba Gump's in Chucktown.
