just me
Was sent out on an early morning press conference. I got to the event, just a moment before it was scheduled to began.
Whew.
I went into the room, and it was completely empty.
Am I in the wrong place?
Not only was I the only member of the press there, but, as it turns out..I was the only person there.
Are we still going through with this?
The really nice PR lady told me that it'd be started shortly, and I got all set up in the center of the room. And we were just about to begin.
This is just too weird. There's like 8 people at the podium and ONLY ME in the room. Wait. Am I going to have to ask questions?
Here's an illustration of what it looked like:

Luckily, the local paper snuck in a moment before it began.
Aww yeah. Now there's two of us! It's officially a press conference now.

I was at a similar presser a few years back. 17 black ministers. One TV camera. One photographer. They read their statement, then asked if I had questions. Fortunately, I did.
Similar thing after a stabbing murder. Just me, the journo, and someone from the local paper, talking to one police sergeant. I'd got all nervous beforehand and packed all kinds of extra cables, mic flags, radio mics etc. Soooo not needed.
That is the greatest thing ever! It made me laught so hard. To think, the viewers will never know that you and a little ol newspaper photog were the only ones in the room.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
See, *you* are seeing the bunch of people on the podium and yourself, all alone, in the audience.
*They* are seeing a room filled with the thousands of people who are your audience, who will see your coverage of the event.
Who's view is more accurate?
I was a newscast producer at a local TV station a few years back.
Our parent company bought a local UHF station and was re-launching it as a UPN affiliate.
They held a presser, sent out lots of releases, booked a huge room, even printed up tons of promotional materials; corporate favors with the new station logo on them.
Needless to say, we were the only ones who showed up.
But it made the 6:00 cast that night.
