blak
Friday, just before the day shift was over, our assignment manager brought a pair of ice cold, Coca-Cola Blak into the newsroom for to sample. "Wait a sec. Coke Blak?" I said, to which she replied, "Yeah, it's that new fusion beverage from Coke." At the time I dismissed how much that sounded like a scene from a really bad television commercial. Maybe that was because I was simply too fascinated by the new beverage technology brought before me.
In case you're wondering: Coke + Coffee = Coca-Cola Blak

From time to time, TV newsrooms get random food samples and cases of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to try out. I think that the PR folks hope that we'll be so excited about "an interesting new product" that we might want to spread the word - which never happens. (Although, I guess I am writing about Coke Blak now...). Mostly, we just go, "Oh look! Food." and moments later it's gone. The rest of the day people who arrive later, walk by, and looking at the empty containers, say, "Oh man. We missed the food." Sometimes the empty containers stay there for days.
Anyway, back to Coke Blak. It's half-coffee, half-coke, half-crack cocaine, and one hundred percent AWESOME. I loved it, maybe too much. But, not everyone did. Some people had that, "I think I just drank Toilet Duck" look on their faces.
How will it be received by the general public? No idea. I liked Crystal Pepsi, so what do I know about anything? But, if you do decide you're gonna try it, then you better get to the story early because I will be stockpiling it.
Also, I think it would taste really good with Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum. I'll keep you posted.

We had some samples sent to us too. I wasn't as enthused about it as you. I also brought up the point: why would you give youor product a name so similar to "Blecch"?

Ha! That's funny. I like how we both mentioned Cyrstal Pepsi!
You had me willing to try it until "Captain Morgan's spiced rum". I can't imagine what kind of concoction would taste good with the most horrific alcohol on the planet.
We got samples of Tab's new energy drink the end of last week. It was pretty popular in our newsroom.
(I know what you're asking, "Tab!?!?!")
Do you think two Coke execs, one carrying a pot of coffee and one carrying a bottle of Coke, banged into each other in the hallway, caused a spectacular splash, and then while licking their lips started to do the wide-eyed, slow-head-nod that execs do when they've discovered the next big thing?
I don't think it's hip to drop the critical "c" from the word "black" but I guess someone in marketing does. I predict the drink will be a colossal failure on the missing C alone.
Funny thing...they were testing this same drink when I was in Europe two weeks ago. Hated it, but that's just me. I like my coffee black and bitter, not sweet and carbonated. But this was the odd part...
the bottle was white.
It's very European, I guess. The name kinda reminds me of the euro Heath-like bar, Skor.
But, yeah - the drink is doomed to fail. But, I'm sure before sales get really low, they'll have Cherry Coke Blak and Vanila Coke Blak waiting in the sidehatch.
We've had Pepsi-Latte over here in Thailand for at least 6 months. Coke is trying to catch up with Pepsi as "the Choice of a New Generation" overtakes the world market. I'm not a coffee drinker, so I haven't had it yet.
I tried to coca cola blak and it didn't do to well in sales since most stores don't even sell it anymore. I didn't like the coca cola blak at first because it was really different then previous coca cola products but I gave it another try and sure enough I was hooked.
